I'm trying to read up on IUDs and came across one of your answers to an Ask! I was wondering what kind of IUD you had- you'd mentioned it was hormone-free? So are you using the copper one? I read that that kind may cause periods to be worse, but the hormone one (progesterone) may help reduce bleeding and may stop periods. Hoping to clarify, and hoping your journey with it is going smoothly! :)

Yep, Paragard is the copper one. TMI under the cut:

Yeah, it does mean I’ve had worse periods, so far anyway! Previously mine were about five days with very little cramping. After the IUD, the first was nine days, and the second about eight, but the last two or three days of these are just really really minor bleeding. The cramping is ridiculous when it happens, but it’s not all that frequent. I had my second period during exam week and I was on painkillers one of the days and still couldn’t write because of how much it hurt, but of course the cramps only lasted for that one six-hour stretch when I was studying for then sitting an exam, sigh!

I briefly considered the Mirena, but I’d have had to pay for that and I got mine for free, so really that plus the fact that I really don’t know how I’d react to hormones made it an easy choice. I’ve heard the cramps go away and the periods get shorter as time goes by, so I’ll see! If it’s this bad in a year or two I’ll possibly reconsider, depending how disruptive it’s been.

i’m too terrified to start on the face and hair help

Reblogging with a few clarifications since facebook changes stuff around sometimes!

First of all you HAVE to use m.facebook.com! Regular facebook doesn’t work!

You also HAVE to use Mozilla Firefox and Firebug! facebook mobile in chrome doesn’t let you edit your profile…

See full instructions at original post.

Much, much easier way to do this (that works on Chrome, I did it myself!) here.

By Anthony James, Staff Writer I leaned against the wall in the dorm hallway. It was back in my college days, and I was spending time between classes expounding on light topics with a few fellow stude

“Mixed-race individuals tread an awkward line put in place by those who seek to define others based on ethnicity. I know mixed-race individuals who say they are black, white or that they are Latino. President Obama, though an African and Caucasian mix, chooses one. Though by that standard I could address myself as an Asian American, I wouldn’t imagine doing so. No one asks me what it is like to be Asian American, they ask what it’s like to be mixed. There is accuracy in the connotation: I didn’t experience being an Asian standing in the dorm hall while my friends knowingly made racial jokes. I don’t get the same looks that people give my Asian friends; I don’t experience the same generalizations given to Chinese or Asians. I am an Asian American incognito, I am biracial. Expressing life as being biracial

As my life may or may not fall under the pretense in which those would signify the life of a mixed person there are Chinese and Caucasians who continually choose to dictate my ethnicity to me…There was no eureka moment, but as my childhood transitioned to early adulthood I’ve come to appreciate that although my own identity might not carry one country, culture, or set of traditions, that it is an identity nevertheless.”

Just to mention that I use this every day at work. It’s the best thing for calming my anxiety and letting me focus. I typically use the brown noise button, but pink and white are also good, and of course everyone responds differently so it’s good to try each to see if they might help. Excellent for writing, too, at least for me.

Sometimes I’ll open http://www.rainymood.com/ or http://rain.simplynoise.com/ as well, to mix rain with the white noise, depending on the day and how I’m feeling.

I just bought Simply Rain for my iOS devices. Oh man. I’m thrilled. Thank you for the link!

eschergirls:

I think Vampirella is still recovering from her fight with a giant crab.

I was using this picture as an example of the straight male gaze influencing panel construction and how we are forced to view a character in a scene for a post on Escher Girls, and I finally realized what was going on here.

I’ve never really looked at it carefully, I just always thought she was changing or just posing or something. I only now realized she’s supposed to be changing her clothes and destroying the house. But, because it’s just like butt shot, butt shot, butt shot, butt shot, I never picked up on what was going on because the panel focus is so much on her butt and her body that it’s hard to know what exactly is going on, especially since she’s barely moving, it’s just static butt shots (and the same one copy pasted 3 times at the end). The main focus was to give us butt shots & a full body shot featuring her boobs and crotch.

Not just can it be distracting to constantly have to see things through this sort of straight male gaze, but sometimes it can really detract from your immersion and understanding of a scene if you feel like the “camera” is just so focused on looking at women’s butts and breasts that the other, often important, storytelling elements are being ignored.

there was meant to be PLOT to this page?

thatdudefromnewyork:

what if the conclusion is “you really shouldn’t be in university at all”, and by extension “you can’t function in an adult bureaucratic environment at all i.e. everything from state healthcare/welfare to academia and most work environments”

what do i do then

Ghost

wikipediafeedback:

Feedback on the Wikipedia article on ghosts:

Can you make a page of: ” How to tell if a ghost is fake. “

We received several requests for more pictures of ghosts:

more pictures of actual ghosts

…actual ghosts? Surely they mean like drawings or paintings, right?

I think there should be more pictures of ghosts, like real pictures not just paintings.

Nope.

i have an exam on thursday morning. here in nz, it is currently tuesday afternoon. i have, to the best of my ability given how incredibly shitty the last month has been in terms of mental health and how much stress this course has placed on me (it’s a sex and sexuality course which abruptly decides to discuss abuse and other problematic things and/or misgender people at various points without warning), tried to prepare for it.

i made the two-hour journey to and from university today in an attempt to get back the one fucking essay i did actually manage to hand in for this course, which is worth 30% of the grade. it wasn’t there. i freaked out, then went back home when i didn’t get a reply in half an hour (was i meant to sit and wait all day holy fuck)

and then it turns out it’s just that the university system has YET ANOTHER ASPECT WHICH DOESN’T FUCKING RESPECT THE PREFERRED NAME SYSTEM even though i’ve already had more than one breakdown over trying to sort out all the stuff related to it after at the start of the year somebody on staff lied and told me that i would only have to use my given name on exams and the infrastructure for handling everything else was in place

and they didn’t realize this until just now and they had been emailing me but i thought the emails were about the other essay (the one i didn’t hand in because massive fucking ptsd episode the night it was due and then it was the end of semester and i had my anxiety-about-bothering-people/-seeming-like-i’m-making-excuses thing again and just thought i’d accept the no-grade for that essay) because they were autogenerated and

and i know that the staff dealing with me are just being terse in a professional way and i’m trying so hard to interact with them professionally but how do you explain “i’m sorry but even trying to respond to you makes me want to cry i’m not deliberately being negligent” without the logical conclusion being “holy fuck you shouldn’t be in university at all”
